Celebrity Carnival of Personal Finance

This week my post on how to lower your taxes by saving has been included in the Carnival of Personal Finance being hosted at Binary Dollar.

My Favorites.
When a new carnival is released, I like to highlight a few of my favorite posts from the current round of submissions. It seems the quality of posts included in the carnivals continues to increase so I am sure you will find a few of your own favorite posts. This week, Binary Dollar put a celebrity spin on the carnival. Unfortunately, I am very out of touch with the celebrity realm so there are plenty of celeb pictures that I am not even sure who the person is in the picture. For a bit of fun, I will let you find who my celebrity is in this week’s carnival.

Here are a few of my favorite posts from this latest carnival:

Why We Save Our Money.
My Two Dollars discusses why he and his wife save their money. I particularly liked the comments about how their savings make them money. One of the goals I am striving for is when the money I have invested is earning me more than I add annually.

Disown Your Kids. Well, Not Really.
Beating the Joneses has a nice post about one way to approach saving for your children’s college expenses. My wife and I are following a similar approach in that we make sure our retirement savings goals are being met before we set aside funds for college expenses.

How to Pay For College without Student Loans
Getting Green continues the college theme with a post on paying for college without student loans. As someone that graduated with approximately $20,000 in student loan debt, I can agree that paying your way through school can be very rewarding. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of attending a private university and worked two jobs all through school but still had the loans.

Favors That Can Be Financially Fatal.
Wrapping up my favorites this week is a post from Personal Finance Advice on fatal financial favors. I’ve avoided these mistakes myself but have seen them made enough times to know the dangers.

Your Favorite?
Given the theme of this carnival, I want to hear which celebrity is your favorite in the carnival and whether you think the celebrity fits the theme of the underlying article. Enjoy!

How well do these carnivals work for you?

Tech, do you mean how well (or how much) traffic do they bring to my site?

Since my site is relatively new, I think participating in the carnivals has been great and has put my site in front of numerous people that otherwise would not have seen my site.

In addition, I hosted a carnival awhile back and that helped bring a good deal of traffic and links as well. While not everyone sticks around, I think a good number of my regular readers originally came here from carnivals.

To my readers, how did you find my site? Was it through a carnival or other link/site?

Thanks for the reply. I have never been involved in Carnivals. I should give it a shot sometime soon.

I’d highly recommend the carnivals if you get a chance. They seem to bring in a good number of readers and get your site exposed to more and more people.
